Hi, my name is

Sarah

I am the founder of Sarah Lee Dance and my aim is to share my love of dance with as many people as possible.

I started dancing at the age of 3 with a tap and ballet class and added more and more classes until at the age of eighteen I was attending every possible class on the timetable – and also helping out in the younger classes. I then went to study for a Geography degree at Lancaster University, where I became a member of both the dance and ballroom societies, but I frequently came home to help out at my old dance school. Whilst in my final year, I came to the realisation that continuing with dance as a hobby would never be enough for me and I wanted to pursue a career in dance full time, so I made the decision to train to become a dance teacher.

Teaching has always been something I love, ignited when I helped out in classes, as helping others to learn and sharing my passion for dance gives me great satisfaction. Attending Merseyside Dance and Drama Centre (now Studio 10) part-time for 3 years (self-funded) provided me with the best teacher training I could have wished for and I am proud to have graduated with a Distinction in my teaching diploma. During this time I gained my ISTD teaching qualifications in a variety of genres and as part of these qualifications also studied wider aspects of teaching. This included teaching practice, health and safety and lifespan development, which provided me with an in depth knowledge of both the physical and mental aspects of safe dance practice.

My Ethos...

I believe it is important to have a wide knowledge of all aspects of dance to enable me to provide the highest quality of teaching that I can. I now have over 9 years teaching experience, teaching people of all ages – from children as young as 2 and a half to adults over 90! I also have experience in choreographing and producing dance school shows (one of my favourite things to do) and have entered many children for examinations.

Dancing holds many special memories for me – from shows and costumes (many of which I still own!), to the discipline and skills that you learn, to the special friendships that are created – and these are memories that I now wish to help create for as many other people as I can.
